The catamount outdoor family center has been the family home of the McCullough family since 1873. The place was originally the home farm of Giles Chittenden. The main house was built by his father, Vermont's first Governor, Thomas Chittenden, in 1796.

We started the recreation/conservation land use experiment in 1978 that you see here today. The property has become amodel of education, agriculture, forestry, wildlife management, conservation, historic preservation, and recreation. it regularly services Vermonters throughout the Northwest quadrant of the state. It is also a destination for tourists from around the globe.

Catamount is installing two solar panels as part of the VPIRG Energy’s Solar Communities promotion. VPIRG has negotiated low financing rates and a huge savings on purchase and installation. We hope you will join us in helping Vermonters take charge of our own electricity needs. If you do not have a site that is “solar suitable” we will host your solar panel for a modest lease, benefitting Catamount. We have set aside 12 spots for panels; 9 spots are remaining. You must be in the Green Mountain Power service area to participate.
